Casa Maya in St. Augustine a Heathy Treat!

Today I am attending a conference for Healthcare PR and Marketing professionals in Florida at the Casa Monica Hotel in St. Augustine.  Today instead of attending the planned luncheon I walked over to a place I have wanted to try out for a while, Casa Maya.  Located on Hypolita between Columbia (on St. George Street) and Tini Martini Bar (facing the bay) this place is open Monday through Sunday (except Tuesdays) for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  It is categorized as organic, mexican, vegetarian.  It is not touristy at all and I was able to sit right down to my lunch.

Their menu includes items from fresh guacamole, smoothies, sandwiches, to tacos.  I had the Shrimp Tacos on corn tortillas but skipped the mayonaise dressing just because I feared there may be hidden gluten. For $9.95 I got 3 tacos.  My very friendly server asked if I wanted some hot sauce and I said sure!  I dashed a bit on each taco without noticing that on the other side of the bottle it stated “Extra Hot.”  After two bites there was no doubt about it, that sauce was hot!  The tacos had amazing flavor, the tomatoes, onions, cilantro and corn tortilla combined well.  After a quick glance of the menu there are plenty of options and the staff was very accomodating when I asked if they could exclude certain ingredients. According to Urban Spoon their most popular menu items are: the fish tacos, the grilled vegetable sandwich, poblano eggs with mole sauce and the pork sandwich.  I did not inquire about which are gluten free.

I definitely recommend this quaint little hidden gem of a restaurant.  There were probably only 8 tables in this old house converted restaurant with a nice little outside area.  I did a little research and currently there is a Restaurant.com coupon for them as well but only good for dinner.  Check out Casa Maya during your next road trip to our neighboring city of St. Augustine.

Don’t forget: Our Gluten Free Dinner at Chew is July 20th.  You must reserve your space ahead of time by calling Chew directly at: (904) 355-3793.
