Gluten-Free Expo in Jacksonville, FL November 15, 2014 from 10am-3pm

On November 15th, the first gluten-free expo in Jacksonville will be held at the Hyatt Riverfront in Downtown Jacksonville from 10am-3pm. The event will feature national bloggers, doctors, dietary experts such as:

  • Julia McRae: Certified Nutritionist. She herself suffered with Ulcerative Colitis in her youth.
  • Desire Anderson: brings 10 years of experience as an outdoor educator and has worked at various camps and educational institutions throughout the nation. She has a wide and adventurous background, in travel, art, woodworking, science education and outdoor, off-grid living and cooking.
  • Jen Eccleston: author of the blog “my BIG FAT grain free life” and owner of Jen Tilly Tea. Using humor and quite frankly, crybaby moments, she seeks to deal with food allergies, bowel health and autoimmune disease while retaining her belief that allergen free food really CAN taste delicious.
  • Shannon Ford, Mrs. United States 2011, an advocate for Celiac Disease Awareness. After being diagnosed in 2009, it became Shannon’s goal to bring more attention to the illness and advocate for better labeling of our nation’s food supply.

I am really excited that we will have an entire day dedicated to gluten-free. I look forward to learning and sharing ideas around living healthy gluten-free.

Tickets are only $10 for adults and discount tickets for seniors and military. There will be an expo hall where gluten-free and other allergen free items will be available for sample. Participants include some of my favorite brands: Glutino, Udi’s, Enjoy Life and more.

Are you planning to attend? What do you hope to get out of a gluten-free expo?

Naturally Smart Gluten-Free Dessert Tasting

naturally smart gluten free jacksonvilleRecently, in honor of my boyfriend’s birthday, I shared Naturally Smart’s gluten-free frozen dessert with some of my friends.  Unfortunately, because I am gluten-free and dairy-free, I cannot indulge in this gluten-free dessert so I thought I would share some of the comments from others, many of whom are not gluten-free.   Our sponsor provided us with Chocolate and Vanilla (these are their current flavors, other flavors are coming soon).   Each pint holds 4 servings and each serving has 10 grams of protein and only 150 calories. Almost everyone was shocked that there were 10 grams of protein in each serving (that is 40 grams per pint!). After the birthday boy blew out the candles on his glutenous Oreo cake, it was time to pass out the Naturally Smart and see what the crowd thought:

naturally smart gluten free jacksonville“Tastes like a Fudgesicle you had as a kid but a healthy version”

naturally smart gluten free jacksonville“Why should I stop; it’s so good for you”

naturally smart gluten free jacksonville“Good texture”

naturally smart gluten free jacksonville“Interesting aftertaste”

naturally smart gluten free jacksonville“Guilt free indulgence”

naturally smart gluten free jacksonville“Tastes like a brownie”

naturally smart gluten free jacksonville“Awesome, delicious”

naturally smart gluten free jacksonville“Is this expensive? Do they sell this at Publix?”

“The first ingredient is water; it hydrates you!”

Special thanks to our sponsor Naturally Smart for providing us with their frozen dessert.

Where can you buy Naturally Smart you ask? Here is a current list as of February 10, 2014:

Grassroots Market
Whole Foods in Mandarin
BioMax in Atlantic Beach
Dr. Capasso’s Thin Centers in Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach.

Look for them at the Natural Life Music Festival and OneSpark! And follow them on Facebook and Twitter (@Nat_SmartFD)

Have you tried this dessert yet?  If so, what do you think?

Epcot IllumiNations Dessert Party December 15th

I'm attending the food allergy free Epcot IlumiNations Dessert Party

I recently discovered a blog for Gluten-free and Dairy-free dining in Disney World in Orlando.  They share food reviews, restaurant reviews as well as tips to dining gluten-free and dairy-free at Disney.  They are putting on a Private IllumiNations Dessert Party December 15th at Epcot.  It sounds really fun! Tix are $50 and the event includes items free of gluten/wheat, dairy/milk/casein, soy, egg, peanut, tree nut, corn, fish and shellfish. A variety of delicious desserts free of the top common allergens will be served.

Makes me want to do something like this in Jacksonville… In the meantime, who wants to join me?
