I am truly inspired by your gluten free blog and website. My 7 year old son has gluten sensitivities so I am always using your restaurant tips!! Thank you!
I was hoping to be able to share with you this amazing whole raw seed called Mila. Have you heard of it?? It is gluten free- and extremely high in omega3s and other essential nutrients. I would love to send you a sample and some more info!

  2. Just found your blog and am so thankful! We too are dealing with a gluten free/ dairy free diet. My youngest has an eosinophilic disease and we avoid these along with beef and pork. How nice it is to have someone here in jacksonville visiting and writing reviews on so many of our favorite restraunts.

I was wondering if you have a recommendation for gluten free BBQ here in Jacksonville?

    • Hi Elizabeth-
You would think this would be so easy, however, I have a little trouble in this area. Sonny’s seems to be the best for me. I have gotten sick from Bono’s and Woody’s. Wonder what others thoughts are? I may post this to Facebook to get some feedback from others. http://www.facebook.com/glutenfreejacksonville

      • Mary Beth

I love sonny’s. Probably go a little too much. You must tell waiter that you are gluten free and they will have the staff change gloves to make your food. (no fries)

Woody’s is good for me too. I usually get the turkey salad with ranch! Amazing!

Bono’s has always made me sick…quit going years ago.

Haven’t called or tried Mojo’s yet.

      • My family just loves Sonny’s, there just isn’t one convenient to me. However, when I am traveling with my parents they always want to stop at Sonny’s.

      • I hear MOJO’s is a good option. I tried 1x since going GF & left happy. 🙂

      • I have been there a few times as well. While they don’t have a gluten-free menu a lot of their meats and veggies are safe and their staff has a pretty good idea of ingredients in their food.

That’s disappointing! There is the best BBQ in Miami called Shorty’s. He was partners with Sonny’s but they split decades ago over differences on the recipes and Sonny’s opened. Shorty’s is much better than Sonny’s too. One location even has a dedicated fryer for the fries! I have been craving it since I moved here.

Groupon had a deal on for Woody’s and after your response I’m glad I didn’t get it. They have a gluten free list and I had contacted the company so I thought it was safe. I wonder if it’s cross contamination? What did you have there?

We tried Shane’s Rib Shack which has a gluten free menu and we were both disappointed with the ribs, chicken, and sides. Seemed like it had been cooked in a vat of BBQ sauce. I don’t think it was finished on a grill either because the chicken skin was soggy with no crispness or the tasty little spots of burned skin that grills usually leave.

I would be very interested in any responses others give you on Facebook. Even though I never cared for Sonny’s, after talking about Shorty’s it’s worked up my appetite and I think I will go for lunch today. Thanks so much for your response Jennifer!

    • Dedicated fryer? AMAZING! I will definitely keep my ears peeled for a place called Shorty’s in Jax! I posted the question to the group and another good place is Mojo’s they are local and have a few locations around town. Have you tried them out yet?

  7. Elizabeth

I wish Shorty’s would come to Jax! They never expanded like Sonny’s did. I haven’t tried Mojo’s yet. I went to Sonny’s today and it was pretty good but I hope I can find a better place. If I do, I will definitely let you know.

    • Jennifer

Mojo’s is wonderful! I get the baked beans and green beans which they say are gf. Also, the BBQ chicken seriously just falls of the bone. It’s all so yummy! The bbq sauces are also gf! Highly recommend Mojo’s. I never have any reactions!

      • I love Mojo’s! I live so close to the one at the beach, I need to go there more often. Plus it is such a great atmosphere. Thank you for the comment!

    Hello,

I was wondering if you have tried the GF bread sold at a bakery which is next to Kyle’s Seafood Market in St. Augustine? I was given a loaf by a friend who was visiting down there but I have nothing to go on to verfiy if it is safe or not. I called the market and they said the bakery doesn’t have a phone number! They also don’t seem to have a webpage, which makes me pause. I live in NC and we had a con artist sell regualr bread as GF at a farmers market a few years back. He is in jail now. Anyway, great blog, I was just hoping you might have heard of this bakery.

    Thanks,
    John

    • John, I have not heard of any bakery in St. Augustine that sells gluten-free bread. I will definitely try to check it out next time I am in the area. I will ask this question on our Facebook page and see if anyone knows… Thank you for stopping by!

I happened upon your blog when looking for GF restaurants in Jacksonville, where I will be for a week the end of the month. I will be attending a conference for work at the Hyatt Regency downtown. Can you offer any suggestions close to the Hyatt as I will not have a car? But other suggestions for dinner would also be welcomed or anything else I shouldn’t pass up!

I couldn’t find anywhere to email you so hopefully this is okay. Thank you for any help you can give!

    Thank you!

    Hi Jennifer,

I came across your blog while looking for a place to enjoy a girls weekend with my friends, one of whom has celiac. We’ve been thinking about JAX since two of us live in Savannah and one will fly in from Miami. Do you have a recommendation on what area of JAX would be best? Your blog has given us GREAT recommendations for food! I’m tired of going out to dinner with my friend and watching her always get stuck eating a salad and baked potato.

    Excellent blog!

    Monica
