I need your help! Recently Brooks Biagini, Executive Director of the North Florida Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), contacted me to ask if I would together a basket for their upcoming Miracles in the Moonlight Gala on October 22nd. Without hesitation I said yes. Let me tell you why…
About a month ago someone close to my family had a daughter diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at only 1 year of age. It was devastating to her family not only because she is the cutest, sweetest little girl, but they did not know what was wrong with her for a while and if they didn’t get her to the doctor when they did she would have gone into a diabetic coma.
She is doing great thanks to the dedication of her mom and dad and the help of JDRF who sent out a mom who went through a similar tragedy to help their family through this tough time. What I have learned since then is that many people diagnosed with Type I Diabetes can also have Celiac Disease. Since learning this, Brooks has shared my blog and facebook page with some of her families who have children with Type I Diabetes and Celiac Disease.
So will you help me fill a Gluten-Free Jacksonville basket that can be auctioned off at their gala?
What I need for the basket:
– Non-perishable food items that are “certified gluten-free”
– Gift certificates to restaurants that have gluten-free offerings and take extra precautions for those with celiac disease
– unused books or resources
I am willing to drive to you to pick them up and if you are a restaurant or grocery store I will make sure you get credit and notoriety with the basket. Please just comment on this post and I will contact you offline to coordinate pick up!
Special thanks to PF Changs and The Veggie Bin who have already offered up gift certificates for the basket!
Hi Jennifer,
I plan to attend the meeting this month as a first timer. My son Connor has Type One diabetes (August 2009) and celiac disease (November 2010). I know Brooks and the girls at JDRF very well. I will bring something for the celiac gift basket to the meeting in June.
I am also a new board member for JDRF and if you need any help with newly diagnosed families, please let me know as I would be happy to help.
Cathy
Thank you so much Cathy!
Hi Jennifer,
I have a 6 year old son with Type One (age 4) and celiac (age 5). I will bring something for the JDRF basket to the meeting this month for the Gala basket.
Hi Cathy- thank you so much! Does Brooks usually attend those meetings? I can try to coordinate with her to pick up whatever you bring to the meeting. Thank you so much and I hope all is well with you and your son.
I will contribute some foodstuffs from Native Sun or Whole Foods.
Thank you mom!
I have a few products I can donate.
Awesome! Thank you Ginny and Native Sun Jax!
