TacoLu is no stranger to the Jacksonville Beach dining scene, however, one thing is new, they have updated their menu with updated food choices as well as language that states they can accommodate a gluten-free diet. If you have never been here you are in for a treat their website boasts ” If you’re looking for the same old, worn-out ground beef tacos with piles of mashed up beans and sour cream, then try Taco Bell; you won’t find that stuff at TacoLu.” This is such a fun quirky place where they pose the question “Who is Lu?”
A while back I commented on the Tacolu facebook page when they asked what they should add to their new menu and of course I added “gluten-free items.” Within minutes Don replied to me saying that they have always been able to accommodate a gluten-free diet, just ask for a manager and they can inform you.
One night before my Sunday Night Jacksonville Scene bowling league I decided to go to Tacolu with my boyfriend and was surprised to see some of our friends already at a table so we decided to join them. Upon being greeted immediately by the wait staff I ordered their house margarita.
At Tacolu they use freshly made juices in their margaritas and they have a variety of tequilas and margaritas to choose from but I promise, you won’t go wrong with their house margarita.
Then I began to place my order and asked for the gluten-free chips and my own side of salsa. Prior to this visit I would always ask them to bake corn tortillas for me, however now they have delicious corn tortillas that are to die for and my gluten eating friends thought they were as good if not better than the house chips.
For dinner I ordered two of the Mahi Tacos. Their ingredients are blackened fish on a freshly made corn tortilla with cabbage, fresh mango salsa and chipotle crema. all gluten-free. There are numerous options on the menu for those of us with gluten intolerance or celiac disease. Because everything is made in-house fresh, they can make all sorts of accommodations (within reason of course). Many options you can just replace the flour tortilla with a corn tortilla to meet your needs. Just make sure to ask the waiter what your options are.
While I still have no idea who Lu is, I know that I love TacoLu!
