Eat, drink and be merry living gluten free in Jacksonville, Florida!
I am just a girl, living with celiac disease, who wants to be able to go out to eat at restaurants with my friends. I am not an expert or dietitian but I believe that in life we should always be learning. I hope you can join me on my journey and share some things you have learned as well.
Here is a little bit about My Diagnosis.

Just found your blog and am so thankful! We too are dealing with a gluten free/ dairy free diet. My youngest has an eosinophilic disease and we avoid these along with beef and pork. How nice it is to have someone here in jacksonville visiting and writing reviews on so many of our favorite restraunts.

I was wondering if you have a recommendation for gluten free BBQ here in Jacksonville?
Hi Elizabeth-
You would think this would be so easy, however, I have a little trouble in this area. Sonny’s seems to be the best for me. I have gotten sick from Bono’s and Woody’s. Wonder what others thoughts are? I may post this to Facebook to get some feedback from others. http://www.facebook.com/glutenfreejacksonville
That’s disappointing! There is the best BBQ in Miami called Shorty’s. He was partners with Sonny’s but they split decades ago over differences on the recipes and Sonny’s opened. Shorty’s is much better than Sonny’s too. One location even has a dedicated fryer for the fries! I have been craving it since I moved here.
Groupon had a deal on for Woody’s and after your response I’m glad I didn’t get it. They have a gluten free list and I had contacted the company so I thought it was safe. I wonder if it’s cross contamination? What did you have there?
We tried Shane’s Rib Shack which has a gluten free menu and we were both disappointed with the ribs, chicken, and sides. Seemed like it had been cooked in a vat of BBQ sauce. I don’t think it was finished on a grill either because the chicken skin was soggy with no crispness or the tasty little spots of burned skin that grills usually leave.
I would be very interested in any responses others give you on Facebook. Even though I never cared for Sonny’s, after talking about Shorty’s it’s worked up my appetite and I think I will go for lunch today. Thanks so much for your response Jennifer!
Dedicated fryer? AMAZING! I will definitely keep my ears peeled for a place called Shorty’s in Jax! I posted the question to the group and another good place is Mojo’s they are local and have a few locations around town. Have you tried them out yet?
I wish Shorty’s would come to Jax! They never expanded like Sonny’s did. I haven’t tried Mojo’s yet. I went to Sonny’s today and it was pretty good but I hope I can find a better place. If I do, I will definitely let you know.

Hello,
I was wondering if you have tried the GF bread sold at a bakery which is next to Kyle’s Seafood Market in St. Augustine? I was given a loaf by a friend who was visiting down there but I have nothing to go on to verfiy if it is safe or not. I called the market and they said the bakery doesn’t have a phone number! They also don’t seem to have a webpage, which makes me pause. I live in NC and we had a con artist sell regualr bread as GF at a farmers market a few years back. He is in jail now. Anyway, great blog, I was just hoping you might have heard of this bakery.
Thanks,
John
John, I have not heard of any bakery in St. Augustine that sells gluten-free bread. I will definitely try to check it out next time I am in the area. I will ask this question on our Facebook page and see if anyone knows… Thank you for stopping by!
